Optical interconnect is not optical compute
Moving data with light and performing a computation with light are related architectures, not interchangeable claims.

Optical interconnect and optical compute can appear in the same system, but they answer different engineering questions. An interconnect moves information between components. Optical compute performs an operation within a processing path. A clear article says which function the reported technology performs. It then describes the interfaces, conversion points, memory relationship, packaging, and workload implications that define the real system boundary.
Locate the function
Ask whether the optical element carries a signal, switches a path, performs a matrix operation, stores state, or supports another role. If a product combines several functions, identify each rather than calling the entire system an optical processor.
Follow the bottleneck
A faster or more efficient component may shift a bottleneck to memory, conversion, thermal management, control, or software. That does not negate the result; it defines the next system question. This is an architecture explainer. It does not rank vendors or treat a research component as a deployable AI platform without supporting evidence.
